What to look for...

Tomorrow I'm going to look at an 85 IROC-Z. What should I look for to be sure it's a true IROC? Is there anything in the VIN or RPOs that will tell me for sure?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, look for RPO Z28 and B4Z.

The VIN won't yield conclusive results because there was no engine unique to the IROC-Z in 1985. Look for the following codes:

B4Z IROC-Z If this code is present, RPO Z28 will also be there but the reverse is not true.
FE2 IROC-Z sport suspension.
QDZ P245-50/VR-16 tires unique to the IROC-Z.
T96 Fog lamps found only on the IROC-Z.

If the SPID is missing, always suspect foul play. Then look at the driver's door jamb for the tire decal and VIN tag. First, confirm it is the original door by matching VINs. Assuming it does, look at the tire decal and look at the size. If it's the 50-series, 16-inch tire, it is an IROC-Z.

I don't believe that the RPO T96 is IROC specific. The reason that I say that is, my 1987 z28 has RPO T96 Lamp, Fog. I don't have any of the other RPOs that you listed.

It is in 1985. It could not be ordered on any other Camaro line until 1986 when it became a $60 option on the Sport Coupe (very rare) and Z28 (kind of rare).

So does my 87 Z28 convertible! It's part of the Z28 1SC Option Package #3 in 1987. It was not available separately.

Makes sense since your car is a Z28, not an IROC-Z.

I loooked at the car on Saturday. It had all the numbers, but it is in such bad shape I took a pass on it. If I had the time and money, it would be okay. And the price was okay, onlt $500. But, like I said, it really needs a LOT of work.

Thanks for the input, tho.
