83 Z 28 invoice
Well, I got the invoice copy for my 83 Z28. The car has a pile of options not listed on the invoice. It has some options listed on
the invoice.
tinted glass - yes
front floor carpet mats - ? (who know after all these years)
rear floor carpet mats - ? (same)
body side moldings - no
door edge guards - no
removable glass roof panels - yes
intermittent windshield wpr sys - yes
air conditioning - yes
5.0 liter 4-brrl V8 H.O. - yes
five-speed manual transmission - no, it has 700r4 but no hole
in transmission hump for 5 spd
shifter
comfortilt steering wheel - yes
P215/65R -15 s/b rad w/ltr - ?
Halogen hi beam headlamps - yes
heavy duty battery - ?
heavy duty cooling - ?
el tn am/fm st w/cass,clw, erss - ? (has the badge but had a cd
player in it)
camaro Z28 sport coupe - yes
fbb2 charcoal custom cloth bkt - yes
red - yes (if that means paint)
However car also has overhead console between the t-tops, rear disc brakes, cruise control, rear window defogger/defroster, 6-way power drivers seat, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors (both sides), positraction rear end (3.73) and as mentioned above, the 700r4. I've had the door panels off and the insides of the doors are red as is all the metal under the console and behind the interior panels inside the rear hatch area so the car has always been red.
I find it hard to believe Chevrolet would mess up an invoice that bad. I'm feeling like maybe I've got a car someone "made" from a couple of wrecked cars at some point.
Anyway, it's pretty (when washed and waxed) and it ran like raped ape (till the timing chain/gears died last week after 190,000 hard miles) till last week. It'll run good again when I get that 350 and new 700r4 in it in a few weeks. Have fun with your 3rd gen. I know I'll have fun with mine.

My invoice matched my window sticker and my options exactly.
It sounds like somebody did some major messin with your car.
I should add that if your car is an L69, it should have a 5-speed and the 3.73 gears, not the automatic.

Yes, someone has definitely made a lot of changes to that car throughout the years.
I had an '83 L69(pic in reader's rides), and as already pointed-out, it only came with the 5-speed, no automatic. It's because of that car that I HAD to learn to drive a stick, lol. I had a dealer sitting on my order for months while we waited for GM to release that car for production!
It came with the 3.73 ratio, so that's right, but you couldn't get it with positraction. So if you know for a fact that you have positraction, then someone added it later. Otherwise, if you were merely told you have it, you might not really have it.
I also had the charcoal custom cloth interior. That was a nice color with my black car.
I'd still have it, but early one morning in 1986, someone decided they wanted it more than they thought I did--but they didn't me pay for it!!!
At least the insurance company did, lol.

Well, I know it has positraction (it always spins both back tires), it has the overhead console (which supposedly wasn't offered till 84) and when I bought a windshield wiper motor for it the 83 version didn't fit. I took it off and took it to Advance Auto and they matched it and then told me it was off an 84 and later Camaro. I also had to buy the right rear emegency brake cable last year and got 3 wrong length cables before getting the right length cable. As I said before, we've had the console out and there is no evidence of a hole for the 5 spd shifter so it may be an 84 Z28 body. The front and back bumper covers are definately the 82 to 84 style. No big deal really. As I said before, it'll still be fun to drive once I get that 350 roller motor in it. Thanks.

I almost mentioned that overhead console. I knew it came out around that time, but I wasn't sure when.
So it's an '84 with an '83 serial number? Unfortunately, it's apparently not a collector car, but it probably was a STOLEN car at one time, lol!
Wait, mine was stolen! And I have the serial number written in my 1983 Chilton book. Oh, but mine was black. You said this car's serial number said it was red, right?
Go ahead and drop in that engine and make a great performing and great looking car out of that makeshift combination of parts. It's probably had a rough life, so it deserves a break now.

Actually, mine had everything on that options list, including the charcoal interior. Red, huh? Hmm. Ok, if it says red, I guess it was red. Like I said, mine was black.
Does it have the single-needle 140 mph speedo in it? I installed one. Does it have its stripes along the ground effects? I removed mine.
Just curious, what's the serial number?
J/k. But if you wanna tell me...
Hey, I just had an idea! I think I'll check into that restoration package for my old serial number. I'll be curious to see if it's possible to findout if that number's still good or owned and on the road somewhere. Who knows?

The Vin says it was an HO car. Digit for the engine is a 7. It's never been a manual transmission. No hole in the floor, no patches where a hole might have been. The overhead console was supposedly an 84 option. I know when I had to get a new windshield washer pump the one for an 83 was different. I took the broken one out, took it to the car parts place and they matched it up for me and then told me it was for an 84. It's always been red (behind the door panels, under the console, under the hood, etc. I got the number of the engine one time and was told it was made in June or July of 84. When I pull the transmission and engine out I'll check to see if they are a matching pair. If I knew where to check on the frame I'd look to see if what that number was. It has all the HO stuff on it, dual snorkle air filter, hoses to the inlets over the headlights, 4 bolt flange catalytic convertor. The speedometer is the funky looking one with the mph on the left side and the kph on the right side. It only goes up to 80 or 85 mph. It was good running car 5 or 6 years back when I first bought it for my son but he's run it hard and put it up wet way to often. Rather than rebuild the 305 I'm planning on putting a roller cam 350 in it (late 80's Z28 tpi motor without the tpi. Sorry about your car. I get real attached to mine, too. All of them.
