G92 rear??

My dad just picked up a '87 IROC 350 TPI, 4 whl disc, original 16" wheels, ttops, auto, fully loaded, 135K for $500. It's rough but I think he got a hell of a deal on it anyway.

I can't find the RPO sticker, it is not in the usual places so I think it is missing, but how can I tell if it has the G92 rear? It has the limited slip tag bolted to the housing, but is this the G80 or is it the G92?? Could G92 be combined with ttops, auto, and 350? What is the ratio? 3:73 or 3:23?

I also don't know if it should have the dual cat exhaust. The system that is on it looks like a replacement and is frickin' nasty.

So, I will probably be checking in asking a lot of questions since I am a 305 TBI guy.

Thanks for the help!

If it is an original L98 car it won't have G92 in the RPOs, it was mandatory in 87 with the 350 TPI, not an option. So it has G92 and the 9-bolt with 3.27s and everything else that came with it.

Cool. That's makes it even better!

It is the original 350. The numbers on the block match the VIN.

Thanks for the help!

When referring to specs and technical information, sometimes we need to be **** about this. Technically speaking, G92 was not an option on 1987 350 IROC-Z's. If it was "mandatory", the code would be listed on the SPID, which its not. Yes, the 9-bolt housed 3.27 gears which was G92 in 1988 (non-G92 = 2.77) but in 1987, it was the only ratio available with 350's. I mention all this because I wouldn't want any 1987 350 owners to say, "G92 was a mandatory option with this car.", which is technically incorrect. I did own one of these in the past and although the SPID lists G80 and J65, it did not list G92. Thanks for listening.

Yes, G92 does not show up on the RPO sheet, but the 87's got every single thing involved with the G92 option mandatory, that's what I meant. Basically, it has G92 without the code.

What colors/options did yours have Willie? Why'd you sell it?

Lucky you!

Another way to confirm your axle and gears is to crawl under the car and look at the bottom of the differential housing. You should see "Borg Warner" stamped on it, and you'll also see "4EU" for the 3.27. "4ET," is the 2.77. Both are posi's. The "4EW" is the 3.45 on the(my) 305.
