How many 1LE Camaro's in 88?
My friend has an 88 Iroc with a 305 5spd. It has bigger front rotors witgh dual piston calipers and a 17 gal tank plus an aluminum driveshaft, but it has AC. Didn't the 1LE cars not have AC. He claims it is one of 2 5spd 1LE cars. The car is also gunmetal grey metallic, so it is even rarer by the color.

There were 4 cars.
I really doubt it is 1 of the 4, but just incase check the RPO codes for 1LE. It would be among the rarest of the rare if it was with the potential to be really valuable. Things sometimes vary with 1LE's option-wise and especially for 88 because there were barely any made and there were no dual converters then, but this is what we have on 1LE's by 89 standards:
1LE package was obtained by ordering the following:
-Level 1 IROC-Z with 5.0 TPI engine with 5 speed or 5.7 TPI engine with Auto.
-Optional axle ratio (G92) (305/3.45, 350/3.27) and its required options.
-Air conditioning delete. (C41) (standard heater)
Then the 1LE performance package was installed consisting of:
-Fog lamp delete.
-Aluminum driveshaft. (JG1)
-Performance exhaust system. (N10) (dual catalytic converters)
-Special deflected disc shocks.
-Aluminum spare wheel with smaller spare tire. (N64)
-Larger (11.86 inch) front rotors with Girlock or PBR HD front dual piston aluminum calipers.
-Special swinging fuel pickup in gas tank and special 18 gallon baffled fuel tank for fuel pickup down to .5 gallon reserve to prevent fuel starvation in hard cornering.
-Some came with special 16x8 light alloy mesh wheels. (XWL)

Re: How many 1LE Camaro's in 88?
If the car does have the larger 12" rotors and twin piston calipers, it could also be an ex-players race cars. There were 71 Camaros build in 1988 for the Players races and all of them were factory equipped with the heavy duty brakes which became part of the 1LE package.
Check for option code A4U, as that was the "Canadian Players Car" marketing package in 1988.
*** Update *** if his car has A/C, then it was not a Player's car ... or it would be the only one with A/C. Need to check the option codes to verify what it is. It could just be a 305 TPI 5speed car that someone put larger brakes on.
Mark.
