new car..confused...help!

well i just sold my 87 z28 back to my mom. we baught it together when i got my license, and i found another toy i was interested in, so i went ahead and baught an 89 camaro. now this is where my confusion starts. i ran the vin number, and it came up with an 8 in the 8th digit spot, so i know it was an original 350 car. i ran it through the insurance company, and they are saying it is an IROC, but all the badges around the car are all Z-28 badges. when i baught the it had a 305 in it, that lost oil pressure and siezed, so i found a good running 350 out of an 89 pick up and bolted the 5 speed and im in the final stages of getting the swap done and the whole thing running.what im thinking is the car got hit in the front end, and the whole front end was replaced, but the guy i baught it off of only had it a few weeks before the engine siezed, and really doesnt know too much. so i guess what im trying to get it as what do you guys think? i really dont care if it was hit i just want to konw if its an IROC or not. did they put regular Z-28 decals on IROC's? any comments or anything would be appreciated!

well its gotta be either an Iroc or RS for 89 they did not make a Z/28 just the Iroc and RS.

Maybe if it was in an acident they changed some things

They also didn't offer the 5-speed with the 350, ever. Unless someone swapped in the 5-speed it's originally a 305 car. EDIT: I just realized you swapped in the 5 speed. They may have swapped the ground effects and not changed the badges.

the guy i baught it off of thinks it was in a front end collision. everything is straight as far as i can tell, and the car fax report i have on it says nothing about a collision. im thinking they just switched the gfx and didnt switch the badges. as far as the dash badge, i really honestly cant remember what it said, but im going to definatly check that tomarrow and let ya know.

thanks for the replys guys. anyone else with any comments?

In 1989 a car with an 8 in the 8th place holder of the VIN is an IROC. An "8" means it's a 350 as you already know, and only the IROC could get a 350 in 1989.

cool thats what ive always thought in my head, but what goes on in my head and whats really happening arent always the same so my thoughts seem to be correct then: car got hit in the front, original engine was replaced with the 305 i just ripped out, and the gfx all the way around were changed.

thanks for the input, at least i know my original thoughts were correct
