1992 Firebird Question
Hi Guys
I was driving home today and notice a firebird in a local used car lot. They were closed but I got out to take a look. Its in really nice shape as far as I can tell without getting inside. I wrote down the vin and got on car fax and it shows its a V6 but the car had 2 tail pipes coming from a huge muffler that looked like a stock v8 muffler. And it had T-Tops did the base cars come with T-Tops in 92? There asking 3500 But I know the place and I think I could get it for around 2500-2800 If i decided to get it. Im looking for a third gen thats a little better on gas for my new job 15 miles away and this one is really clean. Did the 3.1s get worthy gas mileage or are they allmost v8 numbers?
Thanks Alot

Yes T-tops were an option. The muffler could have been changed at any point during the cars life. V6 cars normally had two tailpipes anyway.
It looks like a perfectly normal Firebird to me.
I dont know much about the 6 cylinders, but Id guess the 3.1 would get decent gas mileage.

THe V6 was never a great engine, it is ok. As far as gas milage, save your money, Although it looks like a nice enough car, You will not recoupe your money unless you drive 50,000 miles a year through fuel savings.
A while back I figured out how much money I would save by getting a 30 mpg car that uses regular over my 22 mpg car that uses Premium.
I calculated that with a 15,000 miles a year driving, with gas prices averaging $2.50 a gal I would save about $500 annually. Only if gas prices were $12.50/gal then it would be worth it for me to get a more "economical" car.
