False Pontiac Specs in Sales Brochures?

I was bored earlier today and went lookign through the Old Sales Media section of this website. Upon looking at the 1989 Pontiac Firebird broschure, they say that the 305 TBI availible in the Formula and TA was rated at 170 HP and only 225 ft. lbs of torque. Now i have a 305 TBI and as far as im aware the engine puts out 255 ft lbs.

Can someone clarify this as to why pontiac would put the torque spec. significantly lower than what it truely rated at??

Oh, the link to the brochure page is https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/b...chure10-11.jpg

Where did you hear 255 ft lbs?

If the brochure is in error I imagine that it could simply be a typo, OR it it was advertised lower than actuality for Insurance purposes. Which was the case with the 3.8 Turbo TTA car, the HP and Torque were way under-rated.

Another error that you did not catch was they state that the Formula and the Trans Am had the same engine line-up for 89. Actually the T/A did not get the LO3 after 1988.

My 1992 brochure for the entire Pontiac line lists the 305 TBI as 170HP, 255 ft-lbs.

Upon some research it appears that the lit for 1989 is in gross error, probably a typo. I also found elsewhere in 89 Lit 225 Ft lbs.

With that said, all other years 88, 90, 91, & 92 all list the LO3 with 255 ft lbs.

Well done.

Yea it just startled me because if i found out that my LO3 only had 225 ft. lbs (instead of the correct spec of 255) i think i would cry. Thats an interesting 'mass typo' though, i wonder how it happened..

EDIT...Okfoz, just so that you know, some early 1989 T/As had the LO3. I remember looking at a 89 TA that had the LO3 in it (VIN# confirmed it). Apparently a few early production 89's had the LO3.
