Late 92 Sequence number

I am new to the message boards so I'm not sure if this topic has been covered. My VIN sequence # is 166615 and the GM ID sticker on my drivers door has a date of 8/92. My buildsheet does not have a date on it but I found a sticker on the underside of my carpet with a date of 7/20/92. Am I correct in saying July 20 is the date my car was built? If not, does the sequence# give a clue to the build date? Does anyone else have a sequence# near mine? Ironically, this car was purchased new on August 27,1992, the last day of production at the Van Nuys plant.

Approximately 3400 cars were built after yours. Keep checking the boards. We have the last 92 3rd gen built a few posts down.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at my buildsheet a little closer and box 1 in the upper left corner has a date of 8-12. Does anyone know if this is the actual build date?

That date in the upper left hand corner of the build sheet is actually a schedule date. But in this case your car was finished on Aug 12, 1992. Looks like your carpet was made 7-20-92.
Funny thing, I have a picture of (last eight) NL166616 in my archives; which was the car behind yours! I shot that car at the S.E. Camaro Nats here in Atlanta in Sept '92.

Hey David, thanks for clearing that up for me. It's amazing that around 3400 Camaros were built after mine and all of them in under 2 weeks! Do you have any info on car # NL66616? Would you mind posting any pics of it?

They were building 406 cars per day (Camaro's and Firebirds). So that probably works out that 3392 Camaro's were built after yours.

I do! It's a white RS with a 305 and a 700R4 auto, F41 suspension with 16in. wheels in white to match the car (40P). It had t-tops, grey custom cloth interior (82C), pw, pdl, cruise. tilt.
Just your run of the mill loaded out RS, nothing special.

Cool! My RS is also white with matching wheels but I have red standard cloth interior and no t-tops. Do you think they made a run of all the same color car and then switched to a run of a different color car? I find it interesting 2 cars built one after the other are the same color.

Yes, that's exactly what they did. They ran them in batches of 20 to 30 "cars" called jobs in the assembly plants. The largest batches were white, teal, and red. Intersting fact; teal (37U) outsold red in 1991 & 1992.
