Tach Styles, 82-89

I've been searching for a 5500 red line tach to mate to my new motor. What I found at the bone yard was surprising--perhaps because I'd never really looked before. In the first car I checked, an 82-84 Camaro, the red line was 5500; the yellow line at 5000, however, wasn't solid but rather a series of hash marks, IIRC. The second car, another 82-84 Camaro, was also equipped with a 5500 red line. This one had a solid yellow line as do the newer tachs (85-89?), but the font for the numbers was completely different from all others I found. Of course, I also saw the V6 version, red lining at 6000. By the way, I went to this particular bone yard because I knew it had an L69 Camaro, cars reportedly equipped with the 5500. Not so, on this car. Are there other stock styles?

Sounds like you have a 350 crate motor?

You know all the 3rd gen T/A's I have looked at, I never notice the redlines but I should.

I have 2 85 T/A's, 1 is a LB9 and the other is a L69. Both have 5500 reds with a 5000 yellow that is not solid but a series of slanted yelllow bars.

What this means, Im not sure but I hear the tachs are all based on the motor and not year / model. Im sure somebody can clear this up.

wait till you see the funky looking square gauges they put in some of the 4 cylinder 3rd gens. I also saw a canadian firebird with (?metric?) gauges.

Metric.. imagine that. Must be hard to read a tach marked in radians per second.
