would a original paint job have overspray on the hood adjustable bumpers at top of radiator support?

 

No, cars in the factory get painted before an parts are assembled onto the body.

 

That's incorrect. The hood bumper stops will be painted from the factory. Why this is, I don't know. Every original 3rd gen paint I've seen is this way, including mine.

If our cars were made like other cars in the past each of the pieces were painted sperately and then assembled, not assembled and painted. Actually when my father worked for Buick, the body of the car was painted at Fisher, trucked in to Buick and the front clip was painted at another place. The color of the primer was even different, it was either black on the back and gray up front or vise-verse.
So it is possible that there was some assembly prior to painting, and the hood bumpers in this case got a little overspray...

i figured scott and others would answer my question,especially since most of you know the specific car i recently acquired after my 89 IROC got the grave. of course i can't find evidence of a complete repaint,but have found other issues i'm working thru
