Auto shifter differences?
Why does the '88-'90 shifter seem to be taller and the boot is more recessed into the console as opposed to the '91-'92, where it seems stubbier and the boot is practically sticking out of the console and in the way, if you will? I hate that about my '91. I use to have an '89, and that shifter was nice. I did not know there was a difference between the years until I bought the '91 recently. I was wondering if I could put an '89 shifter on it, or is it different for a reason? I feel like it's in the way how the boot is all 'inside out'. I don't like it.

Actually the boot for the Automatics in the 90-92 would not dip down into the console because there is a functioning shift indicator on the 90-92 cars. This some how limits the amount that the bootie will dip down into the console.
Otherwise I think the height is the same. As are the shifter handles.
