rust disolver , what the f***

What is the best way to get rid of rust on our 82-92 f-bodies ? I was under my car yesterday and found some just under the driverside next to the pinchweld seem . I was curious if anybody has tried that "rust disolver jelly" , if so , is that worth it? I would like to stay away from those body shops , they charge you up the ****ing *** just to do practically nothing.....F******BASTARDS! Someone HHEELLLLLPPPP????

If you're talking about Naval jelly, yeah it works but it depends on how much rust is there. I have used this stuff MANY times on my car and I am still using right now (fixing up interior and undercarriage). Your best bet is to use and wire-wheel or rust-remover-wheel for your drill to get the bulk of it off. Then brush some of this jelly on and let it do its thing. sponge it off with a damp rag and paint it when its dry. On thick flaky rust that is deep into the metal, it wont help much. For that, you need to cut it out and weld in a new piece. If you dont have a welder (I don't) use rivets and JB-weld. Hope this helps,
John

I've heard a lot of good things about POR-15. Instead of disolving the rust, it chemically changes it into something else, plus it leaves a hard painted-type finish that can be painted over.

Hell, if I used rust disolver on my 86, I'd wind up with nothing but a steering wheel and an engine block.

Yeah I've heard a lot about POR-15 too. I use something similar called Coroless. This is what I paint the affected area with after the other treatments to make sure it doesn't come back. It is available from Eastwood: http://www.eastwoodcompany.com
I honestly don't know how long it lasts but it seems high quality and haven't had any problems with it.
