GTA owners help me!!!!
I know as well as most of you do that there are some 88, 89, and 90 GTA's that were made with the factory option of L98 and CC1. I know alot of you frequent this board.
I have an on going "fued" with a fellow member on my message board who say they don't exist! I need to prove him wrong. I even said that I'd prove that there were atleast 1 91 GTA with these options as well. The owner of this car is "BlackSunshine" and he is a member here......
What I need is either a photo of your RPO code sheet or just your VIN number of a GTA with these options from each of these years to prove to him what the facts are, that Pontiac and alot of the info on the net about these cars is wrong!
Thank You.

I think Leviathan (who you to post on the NTB) had a 90 GTA L98. I remember when he was got his car that he chose the 90 GTA L98 because it was the only year with an SD L98 and T-tops. I don't believe that 91-92 L98 GTAs had T-tops. Or if they exist, those are the rare ones.
I know that when I asked about an SD L98 GTA in the spring of 1991 I was told that they were not available at that time. That's why I ended up with the coupe. The T-tops at that time were only available with the 305s...but that was in the spring of 1991.

GM went to Speed Density start in 1990 for the TPI L98 350 and LB9 305. Prior to that, they were MAF (Mass Air Flow).
The Speed Density system uses a MAP sensor and calculates the amount of air flow based on the pre-determined tables and calculations based on MAP and other sensors.
The MAF system reads the MAF sensor and then computes the flow based on the incoming readings. There are still tables that can be tweaked in the eprom on MAF system.
On that note, I will say no more. There has already been too many SD vs MAF squabbles. If you care to read up on the differences, scope out the TPI and PROM boards. Its been bashed around enough and probably has more information that you really care to know about.

ok.......heres what we found out about the GTA's(me and my friend have one)....t-tops were only offered with the 5.0 305, since a 5.7 350 would warp the roof way too fast. also, a GTA came standard with a 5.7, you had to request a 5.0, usually because you wanted a manual, since it wasnt available with the 5.7 because it put out too much torque.

ok dude12387 for 91 and 92 you are right about them not supposed to come with a 350 and t tops but there were some that got built that way i have no idea how but a couple of guys on this board have them but in 88 89 and 90 you could get the 5.7 and t tops and yes it did warp and crack the roof which is something you have to look for when considering the purchase of a t top car. Which is odd, because in 92 GM actually made some minor structural changes that resulted in a much stronger chassis, yet still didn't offer the t-tops (or at least not many). Betcha didn't know that the 92 chassis was different, did you?

Sorry, Its been a while since I was able to check this board. Yep, I'm the one with the '91 GTA with a 350 AND T-Tops! I've read every piece of literature that you have and I know why you think they don't exist. But they do. I have one. I can't take a picture of the RPO sheet right now. I am out at sea right now. I will be returning in about a month. 92GTA, you can tell that guy to kiss my a**. He thinks they don't exist, I know they exist. I own one.

Ok Blacksunshine, WHO do you know in GM?
I tried my damndest in the spring of 1991 to get an L98 with a T-top (even custom order), but I was refused. I even have family working for GM.
Do you know the exact build date of your car? I am wondering if there was a certain time when it was available.
Must be nice to have something rare. Let me know if you ever plan to sell it.

Sell it? Not likely. I bought it used almost two years ago. So I don't know how it was ordered. But I know what I got.

Yea they made a few 92's with 350's and t tops, some of the formulas had them and a few GTA's and one of the firehawks from that year had them, but I am not sure about the Trans am's. Im trying to find a 92 Trans am with t tops and a 350. ( If you find a 92 with a 350 and t tops you best buy it they are very rare) I want one

I don't think anyone can be that "clueless" particularly when they're on a message board dedicated to '87-'92 Firebird GTAs. I think he may be just pullin' your leg to get a rise out of you for some reason.
In fact, I believe RPO (CC1) and the standard B2L/L98 engine in the GTA was the most popular "option combination" available on all '87-'90 GTAs.
The GTA was Pontiac's "flagship" F-body car and they marketed it as such by including many individual options as standard equipment on the GTA.
T-tops were so popular that Pontiac decided to combine them with leather interior as RPO (R6A) for a package savings to the buyer.
I also remember the local Pontiac dealer telling me during the '91MY that the (L98/CC1) option combo was no longer available on any Firebird except on Formulas with black RPO (PW7) wheels.
The few '91 GTA's with the L98/T-top combo that I often hear about on here are a mystery to me. We never seem to actually see one of these elusive GTAs, but we always seem to hear a lot about 'em when this topic comes up every once in awhile. LOL!

Straight from the GTA scource page. These folks know what they're talkin about. This should end the debate.
Question #8 - "Could you get a 350 TPI GTA with T-tops?"
Yes, and No. Initially for 1987, only 5.0L GTAs could have T-tops installed; they were not, according to the order sheets, available in any Firebird model with a 5.7L engine. This must have changed at some point during the year, as I have seen 1987 GTAs with both options.
According to Pontiac order sheets and production records, all GTAs were subsequently available with both the 350 TPI engine and the T-top option from 1988 through the 1990 model year. The combination was not marketed aggressively due to structural concerns, but it was available.
Starting in 1991, all 350 TPI GTAs were available as hardtops only. There are a few 1991 5.7L GTAs with the hatch roofs, but it is generally considered to have been unavailable.

OMG!!!!
Somebody's quoting me here now.... SCARY!!!!
Mikos 89 is correct on all his counts. The research I've been able to do on the 1987 models confirms that the two options (CC1 & B2L) came together later in the model year, so not all '87 GTAs would have been able to have the two items on the same car. But for '88 to '90, it seems to be pretty common. Pontiac must have agreed.... hence the R6A Value Option package.
All the real tech info I have to go on is the car order sheets for each year, but those were also subject to revision without notice.... i.e. the 1987 deal above.
My order sheets say no 350 T-top GTAs after 1990, and I have never seen one in person.... but I have seen pictures of GTAs and their SPID labels for 1991 that show the T-tops on 350 cars.
I have never seen or heard anyone claim that they have a 350 T-top 1992 GTA, though.... only the PW7-equipped Formula 350 models.

Really? I thought they just added some goop to lesson the creaks and moans. WHat type of chassis changes were made?
also..
So, no '92 T/As or GTAs were made with T-top and L98? Only a few '92 Formulas, '91 T/As and no Z28s for '91 or '92?
