Lexan T-tops

My 89 Formula has lexan t's. Does anyone else have them?, what are your thoughts on them. I know there are rare for this year, but i want glass ones. They create a LOT of wind noise, and are therefore annoying. Do they have a regular locking pin? What year glass ones should i buy?

I have them too. They used them in 88 and 89 then they were discontinued to be brought back more improved in 92. You should get glass T's from a 90 or therabouts.

The Lexan tops are a mixed bag. They have pro's and con's...

Pros: They're lighter, they're tinted darker.
Cons: They suffer internal cracks, they discolor with age, they're tinted darker, they warp, etc etc etc.

GM got enough complaints that the dealers often replaced them with glass under the warranty. For that reason you'll see many cars from 89 or so up that have glass when they originally came with lexan. I've got a set in my 91 that don't bother me. Wish they were a little more transparant, but other than that they seam fine. If you're having "wind noise" problems it could be that your tops are warping, or it could jsut be that you have an old car with aging weatherstripping and bending body. If you can borrow a set of late ttops and try them. You may find that the tops aren't the problem. The glass ones don't seal all that well either. Also if you convert you'll probably have to adjust all the mounting points for the glass tops to latch right.

All tops from 85 up have the pin latches and should in theory be swappable.

All tops from 82-92 should work, if the pins are a different size they might be an aftermarket top

you can switch the holders that the pins key into. Remove the window trim and there are two 7mm screws on each one.

Hey Tim!
Yea, I agree, you can change the locator pins to a larger size which would save u the aggrevation of having to get another set of tops.
