cant figure out what size engine...

cant figure out what size engine...

I bought a 84 trans am and I noticed it wasnt the original eng. so i got the number off the front passenger side of the eng. the code is K0106FCH, ive searched and searched i can not figure out what it is.if any one can help.

If you'll look on the block on the top of the bell housing flange right behind the right head (yeah I know, easiest place on teh car to read a number from) you'll find teh block casting number. That's a whole lot easier to decode. Plus, for the last few years (since 82 or so) the factory has been casting the displacement right there. 5.0 for a 305, 5.7 for a 350.

The other number, the one stamped into the block, is not the best way to identify one, because of the availability of the reference info.

Transmission: 700R4
the casting number is actually on the driver side of the motor behind the driver head on top of the bellhousing... it is very hard to see, you will probably need one of those extendable mirrors to get a good look at it..

either that, or get the VIN off of the block and decode it. hope that helps
