Convertible Interior Questions

Are the rear side panels in the ragtops the same as the coupes, with just the upper section cut off, or are they totally different..?

Im considering switching interior colors since it is so hard to find 4th gen seats that go well with the red interior in my ragtop, and thus I wonder if I can use the interior pieces from a coupe and just chop them to fit.

thanks a lot!

Totally different, and totally hard to find. I don't think you can really fudge a coupe piece in there, my GTA had a totally different look in the back. That's about all I can help you with. Black goes with red

Something to think about:

www.mrmikes.com.

It will cost some extra $$, but he will cover any plastic trim panels you have in just about any color you want. I am trying to go with a complete custom interior for my convertible and his place is the only one I have come across that really understands the word custom. I will post pics when I recieve mine back from him.
Like 89ragtop had said above, they are very hard to find, and if someone does have them, they will more than likely will want to try and rape you for it.

something to think about.

Thanks a lot to both of you for your info!

Just one more quick question on the subject - are the rear side panels the only thing I wouldn't be able to use from a coupe - or are any of the other parts different as well..?

Thanks again!

I know the side panels for sure, and I know I ordered seat belts for the front of mine, they were a different part number from gm. Don't know if there the same, but at least the number was different. I have a complete Mr Mike's interior frobozz, and I think he did a great job. My interior was red and we changed it to light tan. I had him do the door panels and rear side panels and it turned out great. I am sure you will be pleased.

I will, that's my RS on his camaro seats page. Pictures were taken over a year ago and the seats still look exactly the same. When the wife and I bought our convertible, the first thing we did was call mr.mikes to tell him what we wanted to do with the interior and get some ideas. Can't wait when everything is done and all put back together in the car!

Do any of you who are changing your interior have pics since you've started? I'm doing the same in an '88 IROC, going from gray to black. 89rsvert, I talked with Mr. Mike and he was describing the work he did on your car. I'd like to see pics if possible as I'm planning on re-doing the rear panels eventually.

I've been told that coupe belts (front) are the same as convertibles, only the rear mounting point is mounted upside down in the convertibles. From what I've seen on my '88, the convertible hardware seems different though. The side panels in the trunk have to be cut to fit but are the same parts as in a coupe. I have a spare set of black in good shape if anyone is interested in purchasing them. Door sills have to be trimmed on the underside to fit across the extra welding put in the droptops, and the J-shaped plastic piece that attaches to the rear inner panels can be trimmed off a coupe's sail panels, and trimmed on the underside like the door sills. Finally, the rear carpet is the same but also has to be cut to fit (very minor, easy job).

Nice job on that tan interior. Did you do the seats yourself with Mr. Mike's kit? Also, did the floor mats come from him and are you pleased with them? I'm looking for some that won't shift around as much as the ones I have now but that have a stock look to them.

Yes, I installed the leather on the seats. I purchased everything from him including carpet and floor mats. Everything total cost me a grand shipped. That was with him doing the doors and back panels for me. I am vey happy with all of his work.

www.mrmikes.com is his address. I don't think hw deals in the carpet anymore, but he deals with acc for the carpet and floormats. they don't slide like the originals. Good luck

cool, i don't need the carpet anyway, i found someone who has done 5 camaros for super chevy restoration projects. He is my dad's friend and he can get me a good deal on the carpet, but he doens't do panel recoverings un fortunately.
