convertible weatherstripping update........

I placed my order with PDI today on the weatherstripping. Thanks to Craig for pointing me here. I just thought a complete list should be put here for all owners to print or save for when they need to order someday.

Again, this is Parts Distributor Inc. in Lawerenceville GA 770-963-5103. Ask for Roger, very friendly and competent. These prices are, on average, 25-35% cheaper than your local dealership.

These numbers are for 1989 only, as 87-88 is one style, 89 another, then 90-92.

12520806
12520807
23.06 a piece (2) These are the vertical top to glass pieces.

12510764
12510765
61.50 a piece (2) These are the horizontal top to glass pieces.

12511360
66.55 This is the piece that seals the top to the tonneau cover.

12510763
193.50 This is a new part number for the header piece that goes across the top of the windshield.

This list is complete to the best of my knowledge for every piece of weatherstripping that is specific to the convertible for 1989. These prices are the best around, for GM parts. As you all know, most parts specific to these cars are discontinued (Thanks GM) and are extremely hard to find at any reasonable price. I would not be surprised if these are discontinued sometime in the near future as well, and the prices aren't getting any cheaper. If this is helpful to at least one person, that's fine. Later.

Glad to see that Roger got what you needed. Just curious, is he sending those UPS?....... Ever since I found that place, I have never even thought about calling a dealership, course it's easy for me when I work less than ten minutes away PDI, but definately give them a call when you need a "dealer" only item.

Yep. UPS ground. Again, thanks for pointing me there. Roger, like I said, was very competent and extremely fiendly. It was definitely a pleasure.

BTW, on that recall thing, the dealership looked up my car in the database and said it did not apply because my prod. # fell outside of the recall.

Lucky you. I am still waiting for parts to come from Ca (going on 2 weeks now), but as the recall stated, the dealer ship will do it at no charge.

What exactly are they going to do? I know the recall is faulty latches on the top. I'd like to know exactly what the difference is.

Occasionally, my latch will come slightly loose on the passenger side after driving a long time with the top up.

Recall number is:
90C1110 JAN 90

Vehicles involved:
1989-1990 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc & RS models
GM Body stlye 67

VINs: FROM TO
1989 F VAN NUYS KL100003 - KL210721

1990 F VAN NUYS LL100005 - LL121103

Source-Popular Mechanics CD (GM 1988-89)

Basically there is a difference in the shape of the locking pin on the latch handle. The original is cone shaped while the replacement ones are cone shaped with a flat surface opposite each other on the pin itself. Supposedly the new latch handles are stainless steel.

I did go to a local dealer here in my area and as I said above, they will fix the problem at no cost. It's just a matter of waiting for parts and then finding the time to get my car into the dealer to be worked on.

Somehow or another I knew I would be sorry in dealing with a dealership. It was something that was just to good to be true. After talking to ASC and then McLaren today, I found out more info on my 89 Convertible.
ASC does not have ANY parts for the frame at all. McLaren does not have any parts for the frame either, just the retension cables that can be bought from other sources. Also, this really ticked me off, the info I gave above about the saftey recall means absolutly nothing!! ASC does not have the parts needed for the updateed latch handles, nor does McLaren. Dealership shoved it up my *** again.

Just some info.

Oh, now this is nice. I called my local dealership and they looked in some database and said my car falls outside of the production numbers, as did GM customer service when I emailed them regarding this. Now to find out I was probably lied to is very dissappointing indeed. I thought to myself when I looked at that, why would it span across two years, and my car being produced in the first year not fall in that catagory, so I check my vin and it definitely falls between those numbers, as it would have to. It's one thing that the parts might not be available, but to be lied to is another. I am also having warranty problems with another GM vehicle and they are lying to me about it, so I have to take off work tommorrow and go deal with it. I am really losing my patience with GM.

Give'm hell. If nice doesn't work, be an a$$hole. Those two extremes seem to be the only way to get what is yours by right although the second gets results faster.

Its not just GM that will try to tiptoe its way around service, every car company I've ever delt with (GM, Ford, Nissan, Chrysler, BMW) has tried to dodge some form of repair or another. Sometimes they even do that to the dealership, so you're not alone.

I know the owners of the chevy and pontiac dealerships here in town, so that helps but I admit its alot of fun dealing with the GM or the rest. Here is one for you my girlfriend has a toyota car leaking windshield in car wash. Dealer told me all cars leak, I said oh really how come my 92convertible doesnot
