I have a question about the center section in the taillights of 85-90 T/A's.(the "smoked" or "grid" type).

Why do some center sections say PONTIAC and others do not? What years did it say PONTIAC?

I installed 85-90 taillights in my 83 and 84 T/A's (kept the original ones). The center section on the 84 has no logo, the 83 says PONTIAC on it, below the bird/ keyhole, in the red reflector area that runs between the bumper and bottom of the lights.

The 83 and 84 original lights both say PONTIAC.

The PONTIAC is on 91/92 T/As. The earlier 85-90 cars have a bird in the center section, none of them say PONTIAC.

MrJ, thanks for the feedback...but Im talking about the 85-90 lights, they have a reflective red strip on the bottom of the lights (91-92 has it on the top and are 2 piece) These are three piece lights. Below the bird/keyhole on the red reflective strip on the center section it has raised lettering (identical to my orig. 83-84 lights)says "Pontiac" in 1-2" lettering


The center section I installed on the 84 has no lettering, the center section on the lights in the 83 says "Pontiac". I do not know the specific years of these lights thats why id like to know why one says pontiac and the other does not.

Well, my 89' GTA has a gold bird, and no "Pontiac" lettering. I'm sure they didn't change it for 90' since that was a short year. I would say they 85's had the lettering and was changed sometime between 85' and 89'. Maybe someone with an 85' can confirm this.

I saw an 88 and an 89 today and they did not have the lettering.

My 86 doesnt have it, and neither did my 85. I saw the lettering you are talking about on one car, and that person said they were off an 85.

Here is my guess:
The bumper on the TA's already says Pontiac on it. I think maybe the Firebird S/E cars that came with the TA lights in 85 and 86 (and 87 too?) may be the ones that have it.
