Why is the K.A.R.R. post locked?
Why is the K.A.R.R. post locked?
It's certainly 3rd gen related. Production car or not it's a thirdgen, and the tv show is from the period as well. It's related to the history of these cars and should not be locked.
It really had nothing to do with the history of the Firebird. The post was about color changing part way thru the show. It was more history to a TV show than the history of our cars. It also became an opinion on what was liked better. Again, there was no "real" historical value.
Yeah, so take your poofy hair hasslehoff leather jacket sorry *** acting loving followers over to a Knight Rider forum!
j/k
But I think locking it may have been over the top... but then Knight Rider is the Zenith of Gayity® hmm... tough call.

In any case, I haven't even seen that show since I was 11, but IIRC K.A.R.R. was two-toned; black on top and silver with a bluish hue on the bottom.

Well as much as I hate knight rider replicas...Yes KARR did change. In the first episodes it was all black with a yellow scanner. In later episodes KARR was black and silver with a yellow scanner.
To stretch some history out of it. The factory did offer a similar two tone paint package on early thirdgen birds.

Actually, the first appearance of KARR was in season one with an all black body and a red scanner like KITT. When they brought KARR back in season three, the car was all black just like before until halfway through the episode, then it appeared with the two-tone black/silver paint scheme. It always had the yellow scanner throughout the season three episode though.
The only factory T/A paint scheme that was two-tone like that were the DT500 pace cars. The only other style of paint I know of on thirdgen birds were the MR MSE cars. My 84 MSE happens to be black and silver....identical to KARR's.

I seemed to remember that when KARR came back to 'life' it dung itself out of the sand. I would imagine that the sand and salt would ruin the paint.

actualy it wqas dug out by an unsespecting 18-24 year old. and karrs paint was not ruined because both he and KITT are majically invincibal via special materials used to build them. you know that black box stuff, yeah, they're made of that stuff.
my GTA is invincable too.

Well we know it wasn't a GM paint job that held up from the sand. But I must say the factory paint on my '83 is in better shape than the paint on my '95 Jimmy.KARR did start out his second appearance all black but with a yellow nose scanner.About halfway thru he got the two-tone repaint.
Thank you, that answered my original question.I thought that I was hallucinating or something.I Liked the two tone much better. It reminds me of the Daytona's.I wonder if that was what GM had in mind with the mid episode color change.Doing a not so subtle advertising thing.Don't know how that episode concides with the Daytona's datewise though.

Don't forget they used 2 different voices for KARR's 2 appearances, as well as scanner sounds. The first episide was some off key sound (not the swooshing we all know from KITT)
Not only that, the TV show re-wrote the whole secret to KITT's strength during the course of the series. in the beginning it was an "indestrucable alloy", later on he had a "molecular bonded shell" (which is why the bad guys were able to neutralize it in the 2 part episide where they rebuilt the destroyed KITT and gave him that oh so cheesy "super pursuit mode" and convertible top)
Ok, I have no social life whatsover...

I just remember in the early episides KITT was made from a nearly indestrucable alloy". later episides he had the "molecular bonded shell".
(they neutralized it in the 2 part episide where they rebuilt KITT with the super pursuit mode and retractable top)
Seems like they re-wrote history...

Yeah, that was a play on words. but others have done it , too. looney tunes cartoons did that a lot. "Hair raising hare", "water, water everyhare" for example...

Just like any TV show car, I'm sure they went through numerous Trans Ams to make that series. they had different cars built to suit different needs (some were modified with back seat steering/ drive controls for the "auto" mode, etc) I'm sure they varied the engines/ drivetrain when they needed performance scenes, too. The one wheel peels we see are likely the result of management not caring or knowing enough to be sure a posi equipped car was used in the shot.
I remember scenes where you see damage on KITT after a smash of some sort. But that can't be, he's indestructible.... It's a show. It was great when we were kids. It probably helped fuel the interest for third gens many of us have today..
Lots of people like '69 chargers and 60's Beetles (depending which Herbie movie you watch), etc.
