I know that there were 4 1988 1LE's built but has anybody seen one or know who has one?

A gentleman from New Mexico claims to have one. I called him a few years ago on a 91 1LE he had (the 91 had 7 miles but the paint on the rear wing was damaged due to a leaking brake fluid from a car on top during transport) He stated that he also had a 88 1LE. He said he got it from a guy in New Jersey who did not know what he had. I think the 88 has about 70K miles. The color is black on this 88 1LE

He said he plans to keep it for a few more years as he believes that it will fetch about $25k.

If he does have one, where are the other 3?

Any info if the other 3 still exists and if so, who has them and how were they obtained?

Also, will these 88-90 1LE's reach the $25-$30k potential. I saw one website for exotic cars and they had a white 89 1LE for I think $27K!! A little pricey for me.

Any info on these 88 1LE's would be greatly appreciated.

There was one advertised in Hemmings in 1989 and then again a few years ago. It was a 1988 Red 350.

I spoke with the original owner in New York in 1989. He did not specifically order a 1LE or delete air conditioning.(A/C was not a mandatory option with G92 in 1988).
He ordered all the available high performance options but did not order any power options or A/C. I believe he also ordered the base interior.

The car showed up with the 1LE goodies and an inflated price tag. The dealer put the customer in touch with GM to verify the extra charge. GM told him they gathered that with no A/C or power options the car was destined for a racing application so the added the 1LE parts.

I met a guy a couple weeks ago here in SoCal that claims to own one of the four 88 1LE's. I figured he is all talk but he knows quite a bit about thirdgens and road racing.

There was another guy who was selling his 1988 1LE on ebay last year. The weird thing is, it was a convertible. Well, I had to check into this, so I did. It turned out the owner was told by a previous owner that it was a 1LE, which is wasn't. I set him straight on this point.
