Need OEM Front Strut part number from an original 1987 Trans Am

Does anyone still own a 1987 Trans Am with the stock front struts? I need to verify the part numbers.

The ones on my cars are strange and I need something to compare to.

Need strut numbers for

- 1987 Trans Am WS6
- 1988 Trans Am WS6

I would think a IROC would work as well.

Strangely enough a IROC Vert might be what I am looking for as these may have been the base valving used for the racing struts.

Mark.

The GM Part # for the front strut is 22064184- I don't know if these are still available from the dealer or not- they don't show up on GMpartsdirect.com

Is that the number that would be stamped on the lower tube of the strut?

I have some really strange numbers on mine, but I sort of expected it. I am trying to sort out what it means and was hoping it was close to the stock number at least in form.

I'll have to post a picture.

Here is the number and letters that appear on my 87 TA:

line1: 71728E
line2: MADE IN THE U.S.A.
line3: H255001A

My 88TA is similar with

line1: 728
line2: MADE IN THE U.S.A.
line3: H26491A

Both cars came with "special" struts for the racing series. These were pre-1LE cars, hence these were the struts that led to the production 1LE ones.

IF I knew who the OEM was, it might help. I assume they are Delco parts.

Thanks for the info.

Interesting. At least those numbers make sense.

Any idea where the 89 1LE is? I recall it used a deflective disc which was discontinued shortly after.

My 87/88 struts are still a mystery. Obviously race-only substitutions. I have a lead on the part numbers as they appear to be "Tokico".
