1989=N10 (Dual converter exhaust)
Other than that the best choice is an 1988.

Along with the dual converters, the 89's did away with the cold start injector. Less to go wrong. K.I.S.S principle.

89 is definitely the best MAF year, while any of the speed density years are good (90-92) as they're all the same.

Why do you want to stay with MAF?If I were to buy a Formula 350,although they are a little harder to find than an 88-89 I'd opt for a 91-92.Banshee styling,Dual cats and 3.23 axle standard,240hp and low 14's stock but put on the SLP package,converter, and dragradials and you've got mid-low 13's.Make mine Red with gray interior and its a spittin image of a 92 Hawk(drool)

SLP Package,Fastchip,GSC's,Brand New Trans with Corvette 2400 stall,Servo/Shift Kit
G-tech 1/4mile(before trans and roasting 1st)13.6@104,now probably 13.2@track with traction/good conditions
stock(track)14.3@96
