The HO was vin G... If you have H you have a low output 305 rated at 140hp. The L69 (vin G) was rated at 190hp. It had at the least, the HO aircleaner, 3:73 gears, higher flow cat and exhaust, and a specifically tuned quadra jet.

Not trying to sound like a jerk but the engine code was different for 83 than the other years

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, 16" IROC rims and ASCD SS hood.

future mods:
SLP headers, completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, NEW PLAN IN THE MAKING:
BUILD A WILD CHEVY 302 JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL Z28 HAD

I have a 83 HO Z28 which I am quite sure is the HO... it has VIN engine code 7. H is the code for the LG4. The G code was used for the L69 starting in 84.

It sounds to me like somebody found a HO car in the junkyard and robbed all the little pieces off of it and stuck them on a plain-Jane Z28.

OBTW - all 83 HO cars (mine included) are 5-speed. If yours is an auto, then it's another absolute certainty that it's not an HO car.

Also, absolutely none were made in 83 or any other year with the body trim for the HO but no HO motor. That would be kind of bogus at best, like people who put SS emblems on old Malibus with drum brakes and the Malibu trim still on the rocker panels. The factory doesn't do stuff like that.
