Who has done a restoration???
Who has done a restoration???
I have a few questions for you or body guys. I'm currently in the process of restoring a 83 L69 (1 of 3,233) and have rust concerns. The car has been in mass since new and on july 31 will be in florida for good. No rust!!! Problem is existing rust, most of the underside is just surface rust but still is a worry! If I sand blast out the pits and nutralized the rust will it come back? Second... Over the wheel arches there is some minor pits that some moron fixed before and didn't neutralize them. If I sand them down and again neutralize these spots am I going to have a problem? Do I cut em out or fill the tiny pin holes??? They are not bad and would hate to cut out a other wise very stait panel. Any info would be a help... Thanks
If there is alot of rust your best bet is to tear as much of the car down as you can and sandblast the whole damn thing piece by piece. Then you have to either patch of replace the rusted sections. Once you get rid of the rust there are 2 things you can do. 1: If you live in an area where rust is problem, POR15 is your solution. 2: If rust is not a problem in your area there is a clear spray that will coat the bare metal and prevent rust from forming.
I don't know too much about the subject so maybe someone with more experience can shed some more light on it for you.

Any surface rust on the frame could be treated with the POR15 or Corrosles (http://www.eastwoodco.com/) and just painted.
If you have rust on the body panels it is better to patch in new metal unless it's very, very small. It depends on what kind of a finished product you want to end up with.
Once you treat your undercarraige I would spray some undercoating across the entire floor panels/fender wells. I use a truck bed liner material, thinned down a bit at $60.00 a gallon. Takes 2 gallons. Gives a real nice finished look as well as quieter driving and moisture protection.
