Looking thru Ebay and ran across this '84 Berlinetta up for auction. The car is would make a nice project. What caught my attention is the extra switch on the console below the hatch release switch. What is this for?The picture isn't close enough to make it out.She is itme #461522024 if anybody is curious(sorry I forgot to cut and paste).

It could be a switch for the fog lights. Since it appears to have the star wars cluster which does not have the provision for the foglights in it. (I have an 84 identical except no fog lights and i only have 3 buttons there.)

Mnformula the defroster switch makes sense since they moved the HVAC on the Berlinetta to the right pod.And the wiper controls were moved to the left pod with the headlights correct. And cruise is on the steering wheel in stead of the turn signal stalk.Or am I all confused now?Angelis I didn't think foglights were optional till '85.And even then were they available on anything but the IROC/Z28?
Opps wipers are on the right with the HVAC.There's just a pod assembly for sale on Ebay.Interesting how Chevy put all the effort but then other companies in the mid '80s did too.How many remember Chrysler's talking computors?

my defroster switch is on the right pod. I will get a picture of my pod at some point.... coul be for a winshield wiper possibly.. I know you could get any option on the 83 as far as trim things like lights and such... all the other stuff was performance.. you just had to specifically request it i think.. I need to find that option list book for the car again.. would probably tell us exactly what it is. Mine is so faded and worn i can not tell what it was for, and the car has not run in 5 years really, Just got the front frame fixed and am putting body panels and frokm steering/suspension parts into it....

Chevy really went all out in giving the Berlinetta the feel of a fighter cockpit. It's been a long time since I've actually seen a Berlinetta with the electronic controls for everything.I ran across the picture on Ebay and was curious.Thankyou for all the replies. The different placement for all the dash controls, the radio pod - which IMHO is the coolest factory radio even compared to all the gadgets today, putting the cruise control on the steering wheel - one of FOMOCO's better ideas I have to say
.And then you have to think about all the additions to the wiring harness to support all this.
