I am think of buying an 86 Trans Am with a stock 305 in it. How many HorsesDid the engine have? Also Did the car have shocks or struts, or did it have sturts front and shocks rear? Help!!

 

There were a variety of engine options in 86 post your VIN number. They have Mcpherson struts at the front and shocks at the back.

 

I am looking at a few Trans Ams so I dont have the car yet, so I dont know the Vin. I just would like to know the general HP range for a 305ci Trans Am...Also what are the brakes? Front Rear Discs or Front Discs/rear drums?...Thanks

 

The brakes were either 4 discs or front discs/rear drum. There were 3 305's offered. 305 TPI (LB9) rated at 190HP and 285 TQ, 305 carbed (LG4) rated at 165HP and 250TQ, and another 305 carbed (L69, very few produced in 86) rated at 190HP and 240TQ. If you really wanted an 86 get the LB9 but if you can go for an 85 since they were rated at 210HP due to a better cam (for autos only). If you go manual I think both years were rated at 210.
