1985 350TPI Trans AM
1985 350TPI Trans AM
I picked up a 1985 Trans AM (Mechum) with a 350 TPI/ 700R4. Is there anywhere I can get specs on the engine (horsepower, torque, etc)? I'll be using the power train for another project so I don't necessarily need the cars specs- just the engine info. Also, does anyone know what is different about a Mechum TA vs. a 'regular' one?

85 TA w/ 350's were not a factory option. It was swapped out at one time. I know there was a shortage of crate 305's around that time, some dealers used the 350's on warranty claims, of course big daddy GM would void the drivetrain warranty, the dealers usually stood behind the cars anyway.

The car isn't stock (if it is actually a 350) so in terms of specs, your guess is as good as anybody's.
In 85, the only V8 available was a 305. 350s didn't show up until 87.

The fact is, there were a number of engine, transmission, suspension, exterior and interior mods that were performed by the Mechams. This goes for the late '70s thru mid '80s Camaros, Firebirds and the few Corvettes that they modified. You might want to contact them at: http://www.mechamperformance.com/

One thing I can tell you is I can confirm what others said about 350 not being an option in 1985, so I think your engine seems to be a swapped out one, nor was any Mecham-modified T/A available in 1985. Those stopped in 1984.
Hope this helps.
