Key question
If I have the code from the knock-out piece on my ignition key, can I use it to get a new door key?

No, I don't think so. The two keys have different codes on them. Do you have your car's factory invoice? If so, the two key codes will be listed on it.
If not, go to the dealer and give your VIN #.... they should be able to get the key codes for you from that information. I've had replacement keys made that way before.
Good luck.

I had a replacement ignition key made that way before too. Apparently somewhere along the line, the ignition had been replaced. Key no workie.
Now I get a couple spares made. I keep a spare lock key in my wallet, and I keep a spare ignition key hidden in the car.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. My girlfriend just bought an 82 Camaro, and it has the original ignition key, but the door key looks like a copy of a copy of a copy and only works well in the driver's door.
