Aluminum Bumpers?

hi all,

I got a message from the A-sedan email list about aluminum front bumpers. American Sedan (aka A-sedan) is a road racing class in scca club racing.

Anyway, I'd never heard of them, but somebody on the list says there were aluminum front bumpers put on '84s. I don't know anymore than that (that's all he said), but was wondering if anybody else was familiar with this? It would be a great junkyard score to find a lighter aluminum bumper!

thanks
Clem

Wow, I've never heard of those before. You think they'd be that much lighter than the urethane bumpers?

Which trans am team to you crew for?
Do you need a nice young driver for next season?

Look for me running SCCA nationals next year with a G production Triumph Spitfire. Hopefully, I'll make the runoffs!

The aluminum bumpers are the same as the steel impact bars that are under the urethane bumper covers and under the impact absorbers. From what I've seen they were used on early cars, but they may also have been used on later cars also.

I've heard the ealry 4 and 6 poppers had the AL bumpers. I've also heard that one of the saturn models had an AL bumper that would fit w/o too much hassle. You'd have to do some searching to find that info though, iforget specifics.

My 84 LG4 car had it as well. I thought it was alot lighter (just because I had lifted both up) but its not all that much lighter. Look around theres a post about the weight diff.
