Not sure what I have.
This summer I traded my perfectly reliable 82 Z-28, with the not so exciting cross-fire fuel injection, for a mean looking 86 Z-28.
The car was originally a 305 TPI with 700R4.
It only has about 65000 miles on it and someone changed out both the engine and transmission which is fine with me since it eliminates all of the computer and emission sh*t. I'm not rippin on everybody with fuel injection, its just not for me. I would like to know how to find out what moter is in it now. Are there numbers somewhere on the engine that can tell me. It appears to be an older motor just by looking and it has what appears to be a stock 2bbl carb. Don't laugh, this thing flat gets with it. The car has 2.73 gears with posi and a Flowmaster exhaust, sounds great. Kind of slow off of the line but strong when it gets rolling. This summer I plan on going to a 4bbl and hope to get some 3.73 gears for it. If anyone could tell me how to find out what the engine is I would appreciate any help.
Also looking for set of IROC wheels and tires. Also is 4 wheel disc brakes any kind of rare in this year.
Please reply,thanks

Sounds like an older 350... the 2BBL was surprisingly popular waaay back when. OR the guy (technically could be a woman) you bought it from had a poor misconception of how carburetors work... replace it and it will have even more get up and go, that thing is strangling your engine.

Well it probably moves better then CFI. How do we know this isn't a 305? Switching to a 4bbl carb seems like a no brainer, but in some cases the two barrel will work better. Assuming the engine is a 305 (not at all a stretch) the 2bbl is about all it would need with stock hardware, a 4bbl would probably be enough to make it lag more goign from a dead stop to full throttle.
Anyway, on to your other questions... 4 wheel disks aren't really rare in any year, they were in quite a few higher end cars from 82-92. For Iroc wheels watch the classifieds here (when they're back up) and at other fbody sites as well as ebay.

I don't think you need to take that personally, the LG4 has some respectable kick... you've got a lot more torque too... but a 4bbl will show you what a real engine can do.
I have to say the edelbrock performer is a nice manifold... the performer RPM isn't as friendly for daily use, but it can also do wonders. Any 700-750 CFM Carb from a respectable company ought to suit it well... the differences I've found:
Edelbrock carbs are easy to tune and very reliable, a little less power than Holleys.
Holley Carbs are difficult to tune, but are also reliable when properly tuned.
I don't know about Demon carbs.
The non computer controlled quadrajets will also be reliable and properly modded will make just as much power as the others.
