N64 lightweight spare

was the lightweight spare only limited to 1LE's and B4C's? Also was there ever an 1LE option for formula's?

My 1990 GTA has the N64 spare.. It's listed on my glove compartment SPID sticker.. I don't have 1LE or B4C... I think it was just a general performace option..

The N64 lightweight spare changed in 1989 to allow clearance for the 1LE brake rotors. Pre-1989, it was an aluminum spoked rim. In 1989-up, it is a painted black aluminum rim that looks just like a steel rim. Need a magnet to find out.

Mark.

I guess I bought the wrong rim to go with my '92. I bought the one with the spokes and aluminum finish.

Does anyone know why they changed designs? Does the old design weigh the same as the new?

When my N64 got here, I was expecting it to be lighter than it is. I'll weigh them both when I change them out. I bet the N64 is designed more for the brake clearance than for weight savings.

The so-called 1LE spare (alum, 10-spoke, inflatable) will fit the front 1LE brakes but not the 1LE rears. The new version will fit both.
