Shy Buyer
i was wondering if some of the experts here could give me some input. i found a camaro right up the road that's in my price range, but something seems fishy. first off, why cant i find info for an '88 iroc-z tpi? am i not reading something right or does it not exist? secondly, the engine, transmission, and diff have all been rebuilt (supposedly) but the seller says that there are problems with a u-joint between the drive shaft and diff. now i can tell a bad u-joint, but i was wondering if this is a problem typical of late eighties camaroes, or if he is trying to hide something. any input would be greatly appreciated. im gettin no help from my old man (he and his mustangs). thnx.

Check the RPO codes in the console. If the SPID is missing, take the VIN to the dealer and see if they will run it to check the RPO codes. Where are you looking for info? Remember, when you buy a used car, you are buying "AS IS" and a car that's 19 years old is going to have problems. Especially since the engine, trans, diff, have been rebuilt. What's next? If your looking to buy one of these cars with a lot of miles "buyer beware". Good luck.

thanks for the input. i want and checked the dar out today. infortunatley the car is a much bigger mess than i thought. it has a cracked head, the instruments are shot, the differential has been chewed to pieces, and the engine bay is completely jury-rigged. im afraid i dont have time between school and work fo rthe kind of overhaul it needs. ive already got a 51 gmc 1/2 ton that soaks up alot of time. but you guys helped find out what i need to look for, so thank you.
