Re: Australian Third Gen owners?
Looking at those pics, your frame rail hasn't had as much done to it unlike mine for mounting the steering box. I notice your box also seems to be mounted low on the rail by comparision too, thats the appearance given by the pics and looking at mine. The rest looks like mine, so you must have a cross shaft running under the dash for the brake pedal operation. I've just removed the steering box from my Z28 as it had what looked like stress cracks, but after cleaning the area up there aren't any stress cracks. The cracks were in the filler used, yes body filler, they'd used it to cover the uneven appearance of the rail after reinforcing it. If you've got any doubts about the box mounting now would be the time to improve it while the engine/radiator are out.
Heres a few pics
Before removal - what appears to be a cracked frame rail, on the clean bit.

After box removal - a good clean, you can see the plated/reinforced area and not a crack to be seen.

If you look in the last pic you can see where they have reinforced the chassis rail (probably a bit hard to see cos it is so dirty
). I know I should clean it up but I don't get a lot of time to work on it myself, that is why I am paying someone else to do the work
. I might get a high pressure cleaner & hit it when I get it back. Yours is lookin' great Bitza!

Hey guys,
Haven't had my Firebird for long but glad to see a few members here.
Here is a couple of pics of my firebird when i got it.
i noticed mine has the booster and column on the rhs of the bay and air con on the other side.

i have no idea who did the conversion at all. but not too bad i guess.
i've got a lot of wiring issues with it tho, and the gauge cluster was cactus and the dash panel was split into 10 pieces. so here is how this came about.

also brought some new toys for it as well :

there more new stuff coming but it all takes time. be good to see what some of you guys are getting upto with yours. cheers
comments most welcome :-)

Looks good LX. You have a full mirror conversion, mine is half mirror. I like your speedo I think I will eventually have to get a new one for mine (I keep running out of numbers
). Is that plate from south of the border?
There seem to be a lot of Third Gens down there.

victorian plates, haven't seen one of these on the road since i've had mine nor a little while before that. with the wipers has anyone ever been able to convert it to how our cars are normally ? it annoying the hell outta me.
my speedo didn't work and was 20k's too low so hence the new speedo etc...
i'll get some mroe recent pics of it tomorrow.

Re: Australian Third Gen owners?
Jeff ,if your steering feels a bit odd (looking at the pics ) slide the cover back on your steering shaft and check that the rag joint isn't

I've seen the wipers reversed, I think they use Holden WB series mechanism /arms and they just look so wrong.

Re: Australian Third Gen owners?
I'm in Melbourne and have a 1988 Camaro IROC with an L98 350, T700 and T-Tops.
The car was white from the factory and has been repainted blue. The car has some accident damage and when the repairs are complete will be resprayed back to the original white.
The RHD conversion was a full mirror job done by Corvette Clinic in Queensland.
