factory subs
i am trying to get my 88 gta back to orignal and it has the performance sound option. i have all the parts for it, but the factory subs are shot. i was wondering what i could use to replace these, or where i could go to have the origanal ones re-done. i dont know much about this stuff, would it work just useing speaker the same size as the subs, or do i need to find subs that size?
thanks,
Brian

I had a set of those in my IROC. I dremeled the crap out of it to fit a set of 5.25 mid-bass speakers in there. Now that's not factory. But it worked. If you want to go back to orignal then you need to find a factory set. Adam :-)

Actually the original Pontiac "Performance Sound" stereos in the mid 80's really did sound good. THey were not loud, where they would rattle the car next to you apart, but they did have a good sound. They were just a step below the BOSE systems in the Camaros. It always surprized me that Pontiac did not offer the same BOSE system in the firebird...
THe advantage of the subwoofers as pictured above is they did not take up any more room in the car and were basically self contianed. By adding 12" Subs, you have to find a place for them. I have mine in my spare tire hole because I cant get a spare tire on my car anyways because of the large disc brakes I have..

The Fierostore. Some Fiero's use the same speakers but only one instead of two in a plastic enclosure under the dash.
