talking with a friend of mine and he told me that you couldn't get a third-gen 5-speed with t-tops. He said when his dad bought his 89 formula that the guy at the dealer said they didn't make any 5-speeds with t-tops. I had to go ahead and tell him that this is wrong but I just wanted to check with you guys here to make sure. By no means do I call myself a third-gen expert but I have a fair amount of knowledge about these cars and I had never heard of this. Let me know what you guys think, thanks

I had an 84 TA 5 Speed with t-tops...
I have a 91 Formula 5 Speed with T-tops...
Both cars being 5.0 (305's).
The only cars they would not make with T-tops were the 5.7 liter (350's) and ALL those came with automatics, not 5 speeds.

I think the later years 90+ they may have offered 5.7's with T-tops with auto trans.

Show your buddy this, if you'd like to have something to back it up.

We don't need to hear from everyone with a 5 speed and ttops! The question was asked and answered.

Sorry to revive this, but I must correct this bad information. From 87-89 you could get the 350, T-Tops, and an Auto (I know, I drive one that's factory stock) and it was 90+ where they stopped that practice.

That's why I said "think"...

Why did they stop this, I have seen some cars roof cracking up near the t-tops, too much twist from the 5.7???

The sales man probably said that in regards to the 350 TPI. No 5 speed with them, and some years, no t-tops either (I think).

Most likely. The car's upper support goes through the doors and that T-Bar. One of the reasons the T-Tops need SFC's more than the other cars. Although I don't notice as much body flex as everyone talks about. Maybe I'll notice a lack of flex when I get SFC's.

The dealer probably said that because he didn't have one on the lot. Half the time dealers don't know what they're talking about, the rest of the time they'll tell you whatever they think will sell the car.

You could get a 305 / 5 speed with T-tops without a problem. But if you ordered a car with 305TPI / 5 speed / G92 with 3.45 gear/ G80 you could not get T-tops. My car has these options and I do not have T-tops. I seen many 305TPI / 5 speed cars with T-tops but I never seen one with the options mine has with T-tops.

Hmmm.
LB9/M5/T-tops was available from 87-92
LB9/A4/T-tops was NA on the Formula for some reason in 87
L98/A4/T-tops...
87 & 88 apparently a Camaro only thing
89 Camaro and Firebird
91 & 92 Formula ONLY

I would bet that he wanted a 350/M5/T-top car... in which case would not be available... little details seem to slip our memory...
