posilbly rare or odd find?

im unsure where to put this but here goes i started pulling the top end of the motor apart that is in my 82 t/a that i just recently bought. well the guy said it was a 350 4bolt main from a 74 blazer he had and he had the motor built and put it in the bird ok well it had droped a valve a few years ago and he parked it. i got it for $500 well i pulled the heads and ran the numbers *354484* came up as a 305 head from the mid 70's ok it kinda got me thinking if it really is a 350 or not well today i got the numbers off the back of the block and this is what i got *3932388* what by http://www.chevy-camaro.com/faq/chev...q-3932388.shtm say its a block from a first gen camaro and some old chevy cars b4 the 70s with 350 300hp so idk im lost but here is some pics of the motor as i pulled it apart. let me know what ya think or if anyone has any idea about these parts thanks

It's a boring old run-of-the-mill 350 block, the same as hundreds of thousands of others just like it. Some of them were in 300 HP cars, some were in 140 HP trucks, but none of that makes any difference to what it is now.

Re: posilbly rare or odd find?

It may be that they used the 305 heads on some 350's not really sure of the 70's but it would be possible.

There are some people who have used the 305 heads on 350's because it increases the compression for better power. .58cc vs .62cc on our cars (87-92). The 305 was not introduced until about 1976ish, not sure about the exact year but I am pretty sure it was NA in 1974.

Re: posilbly rare or odd find?

Okfoz I've had several friends do just that.Lot cheaper than pistons/rings/bearings to raise compression. And I'm thinking '75 is when the 305('76 first year used in Camaro)was introduced to replace the 307.

According to Mortec.com http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm
The block P/N 3932388 is a 327 or a 350(with 2 or 4 bolt mains)from 1969
The head P/N 354484 didn't show in the list but P/N 354434 did and they are '75-'77 60cc chamber used on 267/307/305 and had either 6 or 7 exhaust bolt holes.

Re: posilbly rare or odd find?

Usually the 305 heads that people put on a 350 are the relatively decent heads from the 80s, not the universal crap heads that were produced in the 70s. Doesn't make much difference, though. Those heads you just took off are pretty trashed now and there's little point to trying to fix them.
