$4k what would you do =)

Ok guys, I did not know where to post so.. I just got my first Camaro a week ago and I am very excited about it I got it off an old neighbor for super cheap considering the work that needs to be done, such as tranny rebuild, carb rebuild, tune up, tires, body work, interior ect..

the motor is pushing 170K and seems as if its getting tired. I have about 4k I can sparingly use towards her. My question is should I just do a mild rebuild on a 350/tranny to get her rolling. or would it be wise to gut it, paint it and then do the build up.

I am getting sick of driving my moms honda aroud town..

REALLY depends on condition. If the body is really bad, then fix it, if the motor is not gonna last another few months, then fix that. I would have to be looking at the car in front of me to make the right decision.

Well I personally like to start from scratch. I had a 91, probably didn't really have to, but I went down the bare bones of the car and built it up from there. Making sure everyhting was the way I wanted it. Check out my CD it, very long, but you will see what I am talking about.

Ok...so you paint the car so you have a nice paint job to scratch up while working on the engine? Might want to do engine and work your way out. Last thing should be paint job. If you want to get done quick, try to find a engine that has been built and ran little. I picked up one that was from the chrome air cleaner to the headers. Runs like a top. 1500.00. Never ran till I put it in my car, the guy needed the cash.

for 4k, get a better 3rd gen, for $4000 you can pick up a pretty nice 3rd gen, their not expensive cars, you can probably get yourself a nice iroc or z28 for 4k, sell you car and use that money on the minor things a new one might still need

Hrmm, I like this idea. I paid $200 for the car, he wanted $500. I'm guessing with another $200 and some junkyard parts it could roll off my drive way for about $1k.

Would you think someone might buy a 1986 T-top all power that needed interior work for such a price?

if the car runs and drives, then yeah you could probably milk it out for atleast 800 i had one a few months ago it was a 86 z28 t-tops full power options, the last owner blew the motor, i bought it for $300 picked up a used 305 from a buddy for $50 got it in and running for less than $100, so spent about 550 on everything(includding the title) and turned around and sold the car for 1100.
