I am looking for a specific car. Basically toying with the idea of making a 3rd gen Firehawk clone.
91-92 formula 305 TPI
Hard top
5spd
WS6
Rear Disks
Perferably White
How rare would this car be, and what are some of the sticking points?
Thanks

For one, the 5spd Formula would be a 305 (5.0), not the 5.7 (350).
Other than that, you should be able to find one...
I turned my 91 Formula 5spd into a Notchback / Knight Rider / Rough Rider!

There not "Rare" but they are by far one of the more unusual cars for 1991 & 1992. For the amount of work you will do and the money you spend on making a true clone by getting the Dana 44 axel, the T-Ram intake and the 6 Speed transmission your almost as far forward to buy a true Firehawk.
Figure $2000 for the Dana, $2500 for the Trans, The T-ram is probably worth about $2000 to $3500. $1000 for a set of the Ronal Rims add $500 to $700 for tires. THen add A really nice car to start with $8000. Then there is the shifter plate piece which is probably impossible to find (as the firehawks used) you can get a 6 speed shifter plate panel from Hawks, which fits in the same spot as the 5 speed shifter plate panel.
So far your at $16,700 and its still a clone. If you want to go reallly extreme, you would need the better cam $200 to $300...
OR buy one already made for $25,000...
ALSO a true clone would have started as a L98 car or 350 engine.

You should be able to find a decent formula for $3,000-$4,000, I say go for it ateast you won't have to worry about driving it.

Good info there.. Maybe "clone" is a bit misleading... I just like the idea of the car being a built street/track car, with the Firehawks being a model, essentially.Originally Posted by okfoz

Your last comment begs the question, which is easier, to convert a 350/auto car to a 6 speed, or a 305/t5 car to a 6 speed?
thanks
Trick part of that equation is the 6 speed, not the motor...
But I would go for the 350 if you're getting a 6 speed anyway.
I think several places sell kits to use a 6 speed, check hawks.

You can convert either...
To convert a 5 speed to a 6 speed is probably easier, as the hole is larger in the floor and you get the shifter plate. You will still need to do some modfications to the floor in order for the throws to work, from what I understand.
Honestly if you want the power & Performance of a firehawk, or better and still get good milage, and you like the 91-92 Formula Style, Talk to Bruce Hawkins ( hawkstirdgenparts ) , he has a 91 or 92, (I think hard top) Green with a Supercharged LS1, 6 speed etc he is selling for a good price for what he has into it... I will tell you that from talking to him it is scary fast, and for what you will invest trying to match the performance of that car you will easily exceed what you could pay for it done!...
I kicked it around but I do not have the cash to invest into another car, and I like my marriage to my brunette Wife. (I have 2 mistress' a Blond 87 Formula and a Red Head 89 Formula 350 convertible ) I think once I got into the punk rocker scene with a Green hair beauty (Hawks 92 Formula LS1) I would be sleeping in my barn.
