I am slowly replacing all the hoses on my 1987 Formula with the 305 H engine. Does anyone have a source for the original hoses for the emissions systems? I also need a source for the cooling hose that has the T in it. All three of the hoses are attached to a plastic T without clamps, they are crimped onto the plastic fitting. I am not sure if I can fab something up, but I would like to get that original hose. I did check the usual places, gmpartsdirect, rockauto, autozone, advance, etc. without luck.

Go to acdelco's website and locate a store. I just recently purchased all new belts and hoses for 1/2 the price the dealer wanted. Today, I'm getting a new heater core for about $20. All original AC Delco stuff.

 

im just curious as to why you're replacing everything and therefore causing yourself so much headache ,andalso prsumably spending so much $ in the process


im sure that these good used parts can be found in a yard

i have thrown away billions of these such parts in the past, lots in real nice shape

we dont need them up here

many of these part we have taken to the shredder complete and still on vehicles even

if you have a pic of which ones you need then lemme see, as i may have one or more of them possibly;
in the attic
in my automotive rubber hoses stash pile(pretty large)
over at the shop, etc

I don't understand your question...Why not replace 21 year old rubber components? Rubber has a lifespan and even though they may appear good, could easily give way. The headache comes when you're out cruising and you blow a coolant hose or the heater core decides to give way and dumps coolant all over the carpet. Replacing 21 year old stuff with 15-25 year old parts doesn't make any sense at all.

Therefore, replacement of the coolant hoses, especially the radiator hoses, every four years is recommended, regardless of physical appearance.

The materials now used in your engine's construction are different than those of years ago. Cast iron has been replaced with aluminum, plastic and brass. Used together with the coolant, which is also conductive, these dissimilar materials can create a sort of battery with the hose conducting electricity through itself. The electrical current can create tiny cracks in the hose tube which eventually weaken and cause the hose to fail. This phenomenon is called electro-chemical degradation or ECD."

 

Thanks for the replies guys. I am replacing them because they are 21 years old and very dry rotted at this point and not very flexible. The car is a show car, lucky if it sees 1,000 miles per year, and by looking at some of the cooling hoses and the emissions hoses they are discolored and you can see the bulge starting near the clamp, which means it will be leaking very soon. After I have spent hours of my time detailing under the hood I do not want a leak ruining it on me or worse yet popping on the way to a show. I will try to locate them through a dealer or get something new that works. Thanks for the offer.

 

Try locating the AC Delco supplier in your area. I bought all new belts and the upper/lower radiator hoses for less than $60. They are all OEM and stamped with the AC Delco part numbers. Yesterday, I bought the heater core and outket hose for $39. So for a little over $100, I got all new belts, hoses, and heater core. That's not much to pay for a show car and the piece of mind that nothing should go wrong.
