Debating restoration, worth it?
Hey guys, I've been on here for a while, and I must say, there is definitely some beautiful cars. I have a 1989 Firebird, 2.8 5 speed car, heavily optioned, with a black exterior (Which would be a b*tch to do bodywork on since it has to be perfect to look half decent) but I'm just rolling over the pro's and con's. I'm going to start working soon, and with that, buy a newer car. But I don't want to get rid of my firebird. It needs the following (the stuff I'd change atleast)
*Right rear 1/4 lip
*rear wheel wells (the top parts are getting thin)
*Overhaul the whole interior, T/A seats, most likely change to black
*New motor/trans probably a 5.7, but I wouldn't have a problem going with a 327, or 400 sB chevy, with either a WC t-5, or something a bit better
*T/A hood, which is all I need to make it look like a T/A, it has the ground FX stock
*New drivers door, and a repaint with Dupont urethane black.
EDIT: *It also needs both rockers, but they're 46$ each.
It would cost around 8-10k, but it is my first car, and as far as windsor goes, it's one of the few still driving on the road here. So would it be worth it? Thanks, KP.

Not really....
Cheaper to fly to Arizona or Arkansas or somewhere, buy one that doesn't need all that and already has all the nice stuff on it, wherever you can find one; and drive it back home. Then fix that one up.

That's always an option, too. We did that when looking for 74-76 Torino's. But at the price of gasoline, and how much it is to import a car to Canada, it's almost not worth it. To drive to Oklahoma, and back was roughly 600$ in Diesel fuel, the car was 500$, and to import it, with the taxes, and the fee's to put it in to your name, the fees for Air conditioning, and if the car had any leans in the US of A. It's over 1500$ in hard earned dollars.

I'm REALLY struggling trying to figure out which one is the better deal....
Can I step out for a minute and consult with my financial adviser?

Well, to find a Trans Am/GTA or a higher end Camaro, it would probably cost 3-5k in decent shape, and that would need money invested anyway. I guess in the long run of things, the value would add up. But to import a car to Canada, it costs quite a bit of money, and it has to be in or on a trailer.
