I am looking at buying a convertible camaro and the guy said it was an iroc with a special ordered, from the factory 350. I looked up the vin and it said 5.0l 305 so My question would be could a 89 convertible be special ordered with a 350 or is this bull?

There's 2 different questions here:
What came in it; and on the other hand, what's in it now.
The VIN says it came with a 305. It therefore came with a 305. That much is beyond dispute, no matter what kind of used-car-salesman drivel he comes up with. The VIN does not lie.
Look at the block casting number, which the factory located in a the most convenient and easily accessible place possible: on top of the bell housing flange, behind the driver's side head. Kind of up under the wiper motor. You may need a little inspection mirror to see it. Most late-model blocks have, in addition to the casting number itself, "5.0" or "5.7" cast into them there. But, the casting number tells all; again, it does not lie. There is no such thing as a 350 block with a 305 casting number, or vice-versa. Get that number and post it here. Most likely, if it was a 350, the block will be a 638. I don't know offhand what the most likely 305 one would be.
Rule #1 of buying a used car: never believe A SINGLE WORD out of the mouth of the seller, if you can't verify it with your own eyes.
Rule #2: in case the seller's story sounds believeable, see rule #1.
In this case, doesn't seem to me like rule #2 even needs to be invoked.
If I was the betting kind, I'd bet you'll find a 305.

Ok, thanks for your help. Just to clarify. because the vin says that it came with a 305 then it originally came with a 305 no questions.

If it is a Camaro then I would say there is a slim to none chance that it is in fact a true 350 Vert. Closer to none.
