There were over 6000 built, factory option, most cars had the Croos-Fire Injection motor. In 1982 GM made it so almost every dealer could order one.

Re: 1982 Pace Car 1005 Miles
There were 6360 made. They made one for every Chevy dealer in business in 82. Actually, most of the cars I've seen are listed as the rare 4 speed, but the 4 speed LG4 was the standard and the CFI was an upgrade. I don't know the numbers, but I believe that it's probably equal in how many LU5 vs LG4 cars were built.

That is plain gorgeous! I love low mileage cars. Never really seen one of those in that nice of condition.

That is one nice car...

Its too bad its an LG4 car, the LU5 or L69 would have been a nice upgrade. Not sure if the L69 was available on the car tho.

L69 wasn't around till '83. Sure is nice though, I would be willing to pay that kind of money, if I had it of course.

There was a 1982 Pace car I saw up for auction a few years ago where they kept it in an inflated plastic bubble.

For our members that have a 1982 Indy Pace car, I attached a sheet that has all of the vin numbers of the vehicles that were at the Indy 500, either as officials cars, festival cars, etc. There was also one reserved for the winner of the race.

Yep, I was on the internet trying to find an old picture of it. It was a collector that had it in a clear plastic bubble inside of his garage. I know, it's one of those things you got to see to believe.

A few things
I was thinking the 1983 Daytona cars for Firebird with the L69, I know that they did not have the engine that year (Ceribrial Gas)

What is interesting about those pages is they indicate that all of the cars were LG4 cars at the festival...

Re: 1982 Pace Car 1005 Miles
I don't think the list is all inclusive. It's my understanding that there were actually two or three pace cars used in the race itself and that the motor was an all aluminum fuel injected 350 putting out 250 HP.

That was my understanding also.

Re: 1982 Pace Car 1005 Miles
More than likely the VIN would not reflect the change as GM would not have had the cars emissions & crash tested to run the race.

I would suspect that they converted 3 LG4 or LU5 cars.

Heck if someone was really ambitious they could take the VIN as they are presented and calculate the Check digit and run them on CARFAX & AUTOCHECK to see what they really were... I am not sure how legal this is so do this on your own accord. Once you get a check digit calculator it would only be two possibilities for each number on the list. If you have a VIN come back with nothing it may be the speical engine ones, I would try the Engine VIN from the 350 Vette and calculate the check digit from there.

AGAIN, I AM NOT SURE HOW LEGAL THIS IS, granted its not like the information is hidden and you can get your FREE REPORT for ANY car.
