I had to replace the water pump about 6 months ago and also had a smog pump bearing make racket about 2 months ago that required replacement to pass the smog... either then that the car is still running stong. YES.. both power windows still function and even my rear hatch motor still works good... LOL
Obviously this is my daily driver that makes a trek 70 miles a day to/from work- 5 days a week. The car has a rear main seal leak and the intake manifold gasket needs to be replaced--either then that it idles at 500 rpms on the $$$. The rings appear to be hanging in there...but I suspect I am losing some oil past the valve stem seals as it smokes on startup... but not on full throttle...NOR do any of my plugs get oil fouled. If I took them all off right now they would be all clean with normal carbon buildup... When I bought this car about 12 yrs ago... I never thought it would get this far without engine issues....
Anyone else hit this 300 grand mark?

The only major things I have done to the car over 12 yrs were:
Torque Converter (went bad)
Fuel Injectors (Accel)
MAF Sensor
Fuel Pump
Smog Pump
Alternator
Water Pump
Heater Core
Radiator
WHAT I AM SURPRISED ABOUT:
Power windows still work
Rear Hatch motor still works
Air Condition still works
Even Compression across all 8 cylinders (no fouling)
Distributor still original
Oil has alwasy been Castrol GTX 10-30 every 4,000 miles with Fram PH-30. Spark Plugs changed every 20,000 miles.

367,000 on '89 RS with T-5 tranny. Never went in the engine...only accessories like water pump, alternator, etc. GM had this program about getting rebates for over 100,000 miles. I went to the dealer and they said it was only for trucks. I would think it means a lot more for a sports car to hit these mileages....
Oh well...

Congratulations, thats quite an achievement. Two questions: Is your car a hardtop? And how are your seats holding up?

I once bragged my Hatch Motor worked good.. Buddies dad slammed the trunk and broke the mounts.. Cost me over $120 to fix.. But I do have to say Top Down Solutions is the way to go!

Car is a T-Tops model. The vinyl front seats were replaced with fabric about 5 yrs ago. I drive with the rear vinyls folded down as if the car is a 2 seater.

They are definetly dependable cars if you treat them good! More so than some of todays cars with all of their technology and advancements that seem to only keep them in the dealer garage.
Re: 1987 LB9 Red IROC just rolled 300,000 orig miles today!
285,700 more miles on mine and I will be bragging too. Not sure it will happen in my lifetime at the rate I'm going!
Re: 1987 LB9 Red IROC just rolled 300,000 orig miles today!
Only 297,358 more miles to go for my GTA to hit the 300K mark! Doubt I'll see that.
That is awesome though, congratulations! I love seeing low mileage ThirdGens but I love just as much seeing high mileage ThirdGens. 300,000+ miles is just awesome!!!
