Can any one tell me what the "X' and "L" stand for???

"X" is the designator for Firebird S/E (the luxury/performance model in 1983).
"L" normally designates the Van Nuys assembly plant. "N" would be Norwood. But that should be in the eleventh position. Not sure what an "L" in the 8th position would be.
Are you sure it's not a "1" ? That would indicate the V6 engine.

It is badged as an SE but wanted to double check.
It is definitely an "L" on the title - which is why I asked the question.
The car does have a V6 manual so I am guessing it is a clerical error over the years.

Someones using my decoder, cool, thanks. yep, in 83 the L in the 8th position was for the 2.8 HO V6. I had one a few years back.
