Although the cash for clunkers program has been devistating to thirdgen F bodies, I have to admit I've done pretty well at the junk yards lately. I went to scavenge some parts last weekend when I came across an 1986 Trans Am. This car had been scrapped for the cash for clunkers program but was in pristine condition. Upon closer look I noticed that it had an L69 under the hood (blown up and marked with neon pink spray paint of course). I thought this was unusual for an 86 so I checked the sticker inside the door to verify that it had the original engine and the year was correct. Sure enough it was a factory L69 1986 Trans Am, white with red stripes and silver Trans Am lettering. Out of curiosity I checked the boards for production numbers only to learn that this car was 1 of 26. Hate to be a buzzkill but I wanted to let everyone know that I can verify that there are now only 25 possible 86 TAs with the L69. If you are one of these lucky owners your car just became a little more rare.

 

Some people are just stupid to destroy a good thing. Its sad.

 

I hate that cash for clunker idea, So many good cars for people that cant even buy a car, just being sent out and have to be destroyed, I was all for obama till this thing, now second guessing the whole idea, although I totally respect the whole idea for clean living, but theres just so many people that need good transportation, but someone desides to trade in an older car in this program then it has to be totally destroyed, thats what I am against!!They should just give them to people in need, and make a restriction on the cash for clunkers that the car has to be legally drivable and running condition, and give them to the poverty striken!
