Thinking About Selling My Heritage Z... Fair Pricing?
Hopefully this is the correct section, I don't feel like it belongs in the classifieds....
Anyway, I got a job in Chicago starting in August. Furthermore, I might be loosing my garage space at my parents house in PA soon. Since I can only afford to park 1 car when I move to Chi-town, and since I would never let my Z28 sit outside (or drive it in rain or snow), I feel like I might have to let go of it this summer. Selling it would also enable me to put a much bigger down payment on a new, certified or used car (370z, C4/C5 vette, new GTI or '10 Mustang GT or Camaro 1ss).
I find the pricing of Heritage cars to be a bit tricky as NADA book value for a Heritage is between $13k-$15k but that doesnt specify options (such as 350, 5-speed, t-tops, etc). I'm wondering what you guys think I might be able to get for it this summer (when I'd be looking to sell it).
the car:
-1992 Heritage Z28 (black with red stripes), original Z03 car
-305TPI, Auto, Posi
-Black Custom Cloth Interior
-T-tops (weatherstripping in perfect condition)
-36xxx miles
-Much documentation (original window sticker, all receipts, etc.)
-Never driven in rain or snow
-Only modifications are a Magnaflow catback (stock turndown tailpipes), magnaflow cat and an Monsoon CD deck out of a 2002 camaro (original radio also available)

I'd say around $8000 if you are lucky and find the right buyer. This isn't the best time to be selling a used car, no matter how immaculate and low mileage it is. If you can hold onto it until the economy picks up you'll be in a much better position to get top dollar for your ride.

I'd say $8-$10K but don't be a bit surprised if your highest offer is only $7K.
As mentioned, times are not even supportive of *fair* prices right now for cars like ours.

As we've stated many times before, we cannot give a fair appraisal here on TGO. None of us know the true condition of the car, any upgrades done to it or any repairs it may need. Where you live, the time of year and economic status all play a part in the value. To be honest, many of the people that may have bought in the past are trying to sell themselves. Anybody interested in a low mile '87 IROC-Z? Seriously, your best bet is to wait until you're ready to sell and get an official appraisal done.
Re: Thinking About Selling My Heritage Z... Fair Pricing?
Don't get upset, but I think the above estimates are more then generous. The mileage is low, and it's a heritage car, but the rest isn't all that thrilling. Sure there's a premium appropriate for the low mileage, and the collectible nature of the heritage package, but things are REALLY rough out there. Getting $5k in the current economy could be very difficult. It may very well be worth $8k, but I don't see it happening in the current market. If you can, I'd find a way to tuck the car out of the weather in some quiet corner and wait until the economy turns around, or you get settled in your new occupation and living arrangement. To get rid of it now or in the very near future you'll probably need to accept a low ball offer, and you'll probably regret it if you like the car.
