Re: Convertible 5 speed numbers?
At this point that information is not available. The reason for this is probably easiest to explain like this. 1) All convertibles after 1969 were aftermarket conversions, Even the "Factory" 3rd gen convertibles were done by ASC at ASC. The 4th gens were done in house but were still aftermarket supplied parts, sometimes supplied by ASC. GM wanted to do in-house conversions, but there was inadequate room to do so at either Norwood (1987) or Van Nuys (1987-1992) so the cars were shipped off site for the conversion process.
I suspect because the convertibles were originally T-top cars, and then made into convertibles it was not as easy of a task than if the conversion would have been done on-site, like the 4th gens in Canada. Although I suspect that the VIN was assigned at the assembly plant, I am not even sure if the VIN was changed after the ASC conversion by ASC. There will be some argument about this, but the truth be told, when the TTA was converted the VIN for the first 5 test cars were changed AFTER the conversion took place. That would actually explain the lack of information regarding the convertibles and hard top. Therefore it may that the VIN was modified at ASC, thus why there is no record of the number of convertibles with certain options is apparently NA at this point.
Nonetheless, in all of their wisdom, GM did not separate the convertibles from the hard tops to the best of my knowledge for production figures.
We are hopeful that the information may eventually surface, as some of it has popped up on the internet as of late for the 1990 - 1992 cars that was previously thought to be lost to time.
