Looking at getting my first 3rd gen.
Hey everyone, first I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Tory. I have always wanted a third gen camaro and now I finally have an opportunity to get one. Its the one pictured as my avatar its an 87 IROCZ with a 305. I have big plans for the car, and when I mean big I mean big block. I am looking at either a 454 or a 427. I have looked up the project and I know it can be done and I'm up to the challenge. First off though I have to get the car. Its a junk car and it does have a title. Since it has the 305 I'm hoping the guy will take it easy on me. I'm willing to spend up to 500 for her but when a buddy of mine told me that he just got an 85 mustang for 450 and its running fine. The one I'm looking at doesn't run, clear coat is gone, tranny is stuck in drive and neutral (I want to convert it to a manual anyways) etc. Body looks ok its got some dirt etc but thats it. No bad rust. Those of you that have done this before give me some pointers I want to get it for as low as possible because thats just means more money to spend on the car sooner. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I really don't know if its 100% clean. It has a used car dealership sticker from IL so I know it has been traded a bit IDK when or why. Do you think its worth doing the vehicle history report? I forgot to mention there is a fender bender in the passenger side door so idk about the title.

Just have your local DMV run the vin. They can tell you if there are any liens on the car, but it is doubtful. Looks like a good project, I presume you are thinking BBC and a Turbo 400 carb?

Ok I will do that, Thanks. I'm thinking procomp aluminum heads, not sure about carb... yet open to any suggestions and I will definately look into it. I already have a blue holley fuel pump 70 gph maintaining 9 psi so I'm good on fuel delivery. I already have my msd ignition system picked out. This car is going to roll. I'm going to take my time with it but it will be well worth it.
