1985 Z28

I found a 1985 Z28 in a deteriorating state today, and I stopped to talk to the guy about it.

Its been sitting for 12 years and its got 144,000 original miles on it.

305V8 5-speed

Its red with hood louvers and its got gold trim with the gold ground effects, gold Z28 wheels.

The interior is in pretty decent shape too, but thats about it, it would need a GOOD cleaning, and I'm not even sure that it would start after sitting for so long.

I talked to the guy about parting it out, but he said he would think about it, or just getting rid of it all together.

I'm excited about this car, the dash pad is perfect, and its got surface rust on the body, but it would be a great project for me, or someone else if I could get my hands on it, or a good parts car.

But I started to wonder because I've never seen a red '85 Z28 with gold trim and wheels like that before, is there a lot of them?

I want to try to get it towed away from the place its been for so long if I could, that would be awesome, maybe I could steal it for a few hundred bucks.... I don't know....What do you guys think about it?

I wish I took pictures of it but I wasn't thinking....

The guy said he bought it in 1990 and hes had it ever since.

Re: 1985 Z28

No way you'll be able to get production numbers of that red/gold color combination found. That car is on the dealer camaro brochure for 1985 on page 2 and 3 (provided it is a TPI). I suspect much less gold ones made than my and many peoples gray GFX combo. But that doesn't add value in 99.9% people's eyes.
Hope it has some other good parts besides the dashpad. Rear brakes, rear gears, analog clock?? if you buy for parts that is.
You could be pleasantly surprised how little it might take to get it fired up and running though. Brake calipers might be frozen ( mine were after sitting for 6 yrs), and suspension pieces of course aren't going to be good for much.
Keep us posted. Hope owner bites for a few hundred

Re: 1985 Z28

I really hope that he does too, I wish I took pics or got the VIN off of it, its carbed he says but what does he know anymore.

It would be great to get it running just to let her roar one last time. If I do, I will take what I want off of it, and then part it out, its WAYYY too big of a project for me to take on, I can't even deal with my car right now and its in a lot better shape than this one.

Nonetheless, it would still be a good project car for anyone other than me that would really want to restore it haha.
