I finally got my hands on a camaro! I have been looking for years for a clean 3rd gen, and I finally found one! Body is straight as can be, interior is almost perfect, and the paint is pretty nice. There is just one minor problem....no motor, no trans!
Now comes the part where all you guys are gonna wanna kick me out of here! I was born and raised chevy, and always had chevy trucks. When it came to v8 cars, for some reason I always got stuck with mustangs. I know nothing about what originally came in this car! It has a full injection harness, so thats simple, but what trans did they come with? It is a t-top car, so it was a 5.0 car, and it is auto.
My next question, I was reading through somewhere that the 5 speed cars were t-5 transmissions? As in the same T-5 straight cut transmission I have sitting in my garage out of a mustang just with a different bell? Any information on this would be great! The car is being delivered tomorrow, so tomorrow will be spent figuring out what is needed on my summit order!

If it's a 91 Z28 and it was a 5.0 auto, it was a 305 TPI with a 700R4. The question is do you want to restore it to stock or modify it? If you're sticking with a stock resto you'd be looking for a 90-92 TPI 305. The long block is basically the same from 87-92. But really, it'd probably be further ahead to try to find a 90-92 350 auto since it'll bolt right in and be more fun to drive. Technically, since you're starting from a blank slate you could use just about any small block chevy, or look into any number of engine swaps, the possibilities are endless.
For most purposes, the Mustang T5 and the F-body T5 are completely different. If you're going to bother with an auto to manual conversion, a T56 6spd would make more sense.
